Each hospital and healthcare provider is looking at the rising importance and emphasis on population health and each has taken a different approach. St. Mary Medical Center, part of the St. Joseph Health System, has lived its mission and has focused on community health and wellness for many years – not just as a healthcare provider – but as a force in improving the daily lives of its community through partnerships with other non-profits and city and county agencies. Efforts have ranged from bike lanes to better food sources -- health education to homeless outreach.
St. Mary Medical Center is embarking on an exciting new endeavor to create an Oasis in the high desert. It is intended to be a place of health and wellness for body, mind, and spirit. It is a place for healthy food and eating; education, including health education; wellness activities; cultural activities; and complimentary retail for the population St. Mary’s serves.
In this session, we will explore:
What improves community health?
How does a healthcare provider align its mission with its community?
How do sustainability considerations play a role in serving a community?
